Volunteers help prepare and distribute essential food supplies for Connecticut families facing food insecurity.
STAMFORD, Conn., Sept. 30, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Connecticut Foodshare today announced continued support from Philip Morris International's U.S. businesses (PMI U.S.), whose recent contribution and employee volunteer efforts are helping advance the organization's mission of creating a future where no one in Connecticut faces hunger alone. On Sept. 29, a team of PMI U.S. employees volunteered at Connecticut Foodshare's Bridgeport facility, inspecting and sorting food for distribution to individuals and families facing food insecurity across the state.
Founded in 1982, Connecticut Foodshare is a member of the Feeding America network and serves communities throughout Connecticut by providing nutritious food assistance while addressing the root causes of hunger. Through partnerships with local organizations, volunteers, and supporters, the organization works to ensure all Connecticut residents have reliable access to the resources they need to thrive.
The volunteer event was supported by WeVolunteer, a PMI U.S. community service initiative that connects employees with local nonprofit organizations through hands-on volunteer opportunities.
The need for food assistance continues to rise as many families face increasing costs associated with food, housing, healthcare, and transportation. At the same time, nonprofit organizations like Connecticut Foodshare continue to navigate higher operational expenses while working to serve a growing number of individuals and families seeking support.
"Addressing hunger takes a community-wide effort, and partners like PMI U.S. play an important role in helping us meet the needs of our neighbors," said Jason Jakubowski, President and CEO of Connecticut Foodshare. "Through both volunteerism and financial support, this partnership helps strengthen our ability to provide food assistance today while advancing long-term solutions that create a stronger and more resilient Connecticut."
PMI U.S. has contributed to Connecticut Foodshare's hunger-relief efforts through donations totaling $120,000 over the past two years, helping the organization continue providing food and support to communities across the state.
"At PMI U.S., we believe that strong communities are built when organizations come together to meaningfully address local needs," said Lisa Rechsteiner, Director of Civil Society at PMI U.S. "Connecticut Foodshare is doing vital work to help ensure families across the state have access to nutritious food, and we are proud to support that mission through both philanthropy and volunteer service. Through our WeVolunteer program, PMI U.S. employees can make a tangible difference in the communities where they live and work, and we are honored to partner with Connecticut Foodshare in the fight against hunger."
Through the continued support of volunteers, donors, and community partners, Connecticut Foodshare remains committed to building a future where every person in Connecticut has access to the food and resources they need to live healthy and productive lives.
