Consumers Mutual earns NCQA accreditation
Shows company offering high quality products, services to customers
EAST LANSING, Mich., May 18, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Consumers Mutual Insurance of Michigan has received accreditation from the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA), a national organization that examines health plans to determine that they provide service and clinical quality that meet or exceed the organization's rigorous requirements for consumer protection and quality improvement.
The accreditation is for a three year period, starting May 11 and running until 2018. Consumers Mutual asked NCQA to accredit its preferred provider organization (PPO) plan offered through the federal and state exchange marketplace.
"This is an important indicator to consumers around the state that Consumers Mutual is committed to and is achieving excellence in meeting their needs," said Dennis Litos, president and CEO of Consumers Mutual. "For a company operating less than two years to receive NCQA accreditation takes hard work and proves our entire team is dedicated to improving the quality care experience for our members."
NCQA Health Plan Accreditation evaluates how well a health plan manages all parts of its member experience – physicians, hospitals, other providers and administrative services – in order to continuously improve the quality of care and services provided to its members.
"This is step one. Step two will be to join the elite health plans in Michigan – and there are many – who are working to provide Michigan consumers with excellent choices in a competitive atmosphere that helps hold down rates and increase value for all," said Litos. "That is why Consumers Mutual was founded as a co-operative insurer, one owned and operated by members, for members."
According to the NCQA web site, "NCQA Accreditation provides purchasers and consumers with an unprecedented ability to evaluate the quality of different health plans along a variety of important dimensions, and to make their health plan decisions based on demonstrated value rather than simply on cost. The standards are purposely set high to encourage health plans to continuously enhance their quality. No comparable evaluation exists for fee-for-service health care."
