CHICAGO, Dec. 9, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Ceramic mugs have long been associated with cozy morning coffee at home, and now Contigo® is combining the familiarity of ceramic with the insulation and portability needed for today's on-the-go lifestyles. The Knox Insulated Ceramic Mug combines a ceramic interior with a sturdy, travel and cup holder-friendly design, allowing busy consumers to extend the comfort of drinking from their favorite mugs into all of the places they call home away from home. Contigo, a leading producer of travel mugs, water bottles and kids bottles, developed the product after tracking consumer demand for ceramic mugs.

"Ceramic drinkware sales increased by double digits from 2013 to 2014, and our customers have told us how much they love their ceramic mugs. Our design team took note and began looking for ways to bring continuous, meaningful innovation into the ceramic category," said Todd Starr, Vice President of Marketing and Product Development at Contigo, a Newell Rubbermaid business. "Knox offers the comforting feel of ceramic in a portable design so coffee lovers can enjoy their favorite traditional coffee experience, whether they are at home on the deck, in a meeting at the office or on their way to work."

Unlike a traditional coffee mug, the Knox Insulated Ceramic Mug can keep beverages hot for up to an hour, thanks to a layer of insulation. At its core, a ceramic mug lines the inside and extends through the top of the cup, providing a wide ceramic lip for drinking. Next, a thick layer of foam insulation wraps around the ceramic mug, insulating it to keep beverages hot and hands cool. Finally, a stainless steel exterior adds an extra layer of durability to the mug.

Knox also boasts additional premium features, including:

  • A splash-resistant slider lid to guard the drink and keep in heat between sips
  • A comfortable silicon grip that not only keeps hands cool, but also help protect the ceramic lip should the mug accidentally tip over
  • A soft bottom pad that ensures quiet use and eliminates clinking, even in the board room
  • BPA-free body and a lid that is top-rack dishwasher safe

Available in a 12-ounce capacity, the Knox Insulated Ceramic Mug fits easily in most car cup holders and under most single-serve brewers. It will be available in black, stainless steel or copper finishes this fall at Target, Amazon.com and GoContigo.com for a suggested retail price of $14.99.
