ConvaTec Expands Portfolio of AQUACEL® Foam Dressings

LUXEMBOURG, May 21, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- ConvaTec, a leading global medical products and technologies company, today announced that its AQUACEL^® Foam dressing is now available in a range of new rectangular sizes, designed for a wider variety of anatomical wound care applications.

AQUACEL^® Foam dressing is the only foam dressing that combines the comfort and simplicity of foam with the benefits of an AQUACEL^® contact layer. Designed to help create an optimal wound healing environment, the dressings are ideal for exuding acute, chronic and traumatic wounds, including dermabrasions and surgical incisions.

The new sizes include 8cm x 13cm (3" x 5") 10cm x 20cm (4" x 8"), 10cm x 25cm (4" x 10") and 10cm x 30cm (4" x 12"). The range of sizes is designed for ease of use on a variety of positions, including the head and neck, shoulder, lower leg and wrist, as well as the lower abdomen for appendectomies, Cesarean sections and midline incisions.

The new rectangular sizes of AQUACEL^® Foam dressings are part of the full portfolio of AQUACEL^® Foam dressings, which includes adhesive and non-adhesive options. The new rectangular sizes are available with a silicone adhesive border only; non-adhesive options are not currently available. The initial launch markets for these new sizes are the United Kingdom, France, the Nordic countries, Canada, Bulgaria, Malaysia, the Netherlands, Australia, New Zealand and the U.S., with other countries to follow.

AQUACEL^® Foam dressing is specifically designed to meet wound management challenges. It combines ConvaTec's proprietary Hydrofiber^® Technology wound contact layer—which has been shown in vitro to gel on contact with wound fluid to lock in exudate and prevent the lateral spread of fluid—with a waterproof barrier that allows for the evaporation of excess moisture while protecting against viral and bacterial penetration. The soft, absorbent foam pad enhances patient comfort and absorbs excess fluid.

Comfortable and conformable,* the dressings are designed to help reduce pain and trauma upon dressing removal.  The gentle silicone border adhesive is designed to adhere to surrounding skin but not to the wound bed.  In addition, the skin-friendly adhesive minimizes skin irritation and allergic reactions.
