Cook County Treasurer Joins Chicago's Chinese American Community for U.S.-China Friendship Day in Daley Plaza on Eve of China National Day

CHICAGO, Sept. 30, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- The Cook County Treasurer and members of the Chinese American community in Chicagoland will gather Wednesday, September 30, 2026, at 2:30 p.m. for a U.S.–China Friendship Day celebration. It will feature a flag raising and will bring together members of the Chinese American community and friends of the United States and China.

Organized by the Greater Chicago Chinese Association of Overseas Chinese and Chinese Americans, the event will take place in Daley Plaza in the heart of downtown Chicago.

After the flag raising at 3:30 p.m. the public is invited to attend a special reception in the Treasurer's office right across the street at 118 N. Clark Street, Room 112. The celebration comes on the eve of China's National Day on October 1, providing an opportunity to recognize Chinese heritage and culture while highlighting the connections between people.

The 2026 celebration carries particular significance as the United States marks its 250th anniversary and the People's Republic of China marks its 77th on October 1.

The celebration will focus on four themes: strengthening friendship, promoting exchange, fostering community integration, and working toward the future together.

"U.S.–China friendship is built not only through governments and institutions, but also through communities, families, businesses, students, educators, neighbors and cultural exchanges," said the Cook County Treasurer. "This event provides an opportunity for people in Chicago to come together and celebrate the incalculable and lasting contributions of the more than 135,000 members of the Chinese diaspora in Cook County.

The reception also provides an opportunity to honor local community leaders who'll be presented with Certificates of Excellence.
