Corboy & Demetrio Files Lawsuit Against My Gym in Zipline Death of 7-year-old Boy

CHICAGO, Jan. 2, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- The Chicago law firm of Corboy & Demetrio has filed a lawsuit against My Gym Children's Fitness Center of Wheaton, and its parent company, My Gym Enterprises, for the wrongful death of Brady Doherty, a 7-year-old boy. 

On September 30, 2018, Brady was attending a friend's birthday party at My Gym located at 35 Danada Square East in Wheaton, Illinois.  Brady was using a zipline attraction provided by My Gym.  When a spotter assigned by My Gym failed to follow Brady, he was vaulted into an unpadded pole, then plummeted to the floor, striking his head on an unpadded cement floor.  Brady, who had not been provided either a harness or helmet, died on October 2, 2018 due to massive skull and brain injuries.

The lawsuit alleges that My Gym failed to properly supervise Brady as he used the zipline and that My Gym failed to properly install and provide safety devices that would have prevented Brady's injuries and death. 

"The Doherty family is worried about similar unsafe zipline attractions throughout the country and hope this case prompts My Gym to remove its zipline from all locations," said Michael K. Demetrio who represents Brady's Estate. 

"Parents have a right to expect that the attractions at My Gym are safe and that employees are properly trained," added Andrew P. Stevens of Corboy & Demetrio who also represents the estate.
