SEATTLE, Oct. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- For students and faculty at Cortiva Institute – Seattle School of Massage Therapy, Wellness Week is an opportunity to educate the community about the benefits of massage therapy and to celebrate why they are so passionate about what they do.
Wellness Day at Cortiva Institute – Seattle School of Massage Therapy will be held on Friday, October 29 from 2 PM to 7 PM. The campus is located at 425 Pontius Ave N, Suite 100 in Seattle.
Wellness Day is being held in conjunction with the American Massage Therapy Association's Massage Therapy Awareness Week, October 24 – 30. According to Cortiva - Seattle campus president Dina Bennett, Wellness Day "is our way of celebrating the benefits of massage, helping to educate the community about what we offer at Cortiva, and to participate with interactive events throughout the day that highlight how massage therapy can help you."
The campus will offer student chair massage from 2-7 p.m. and Wellness Day events from 4-7 p.m., including presentations, campus tours and informative displays.
The benefits of massage therapy are becoming more widely recognized. One recent study pointing to the considerable benefits of massage therapy was conducted at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, sponsored by the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine, a division of the National Institutes of Health.
The results of the study found that a single session of massage caused biological changes including significant decreases in levels of the stress hormone cortisol in blood and saliva, and in arginine vasopressin, a hormone that can lead to increases in cortisol. Research subjects also had increases in the number of lymphocytes, white blood cells that are part of the immune system (The New York Times; September 20, 2010).
"Wellness Day will be a fun and exciting day at our campus," says Bennett, a licensed massage practitioner. "Massage therapy is emerging as a vital component to healthcare. We have a wealth of information to share that demonstrates why."
