Countless Students Beating the Odds this Graduation Season

WASHINGTON, June 23, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Many charter school students across the country have overcome difficult challenges to receive their high school diplomas. In celebration of their work, the National Alliance for Public Charter Schools has launched a #30DaysOfGrad project highlighting inspiring stories from charter school graduates and schools across the country.

Students featured in the series have overcome a variety of obstacles to receive their high school diplomas and many are moving on to prestigious colleges and universities in the fall. For example, AB Bustamante, a student from Uplift Peak Preparatory charter school in Dallas, is the first in his family to graduate from high school. Next fall, he will attend the United States Naval Academy.

Alejandra Corona, a 17-year-old Cuban-American from Mater High School in Hialeah Gardens, Florida is graduating with her high school diploma and her associate's degree.

Other stories celebrate the work of charter schools where 100 percent of their graduating classes are headed to college. Nashville's LEAD Academy, Chicago's Urban Prep Academies, and Boston's Match Education are a just a few who have been recognized for this outstanding achievement.
