COVID19@Home: A Free Course for Managing Coronavirus at Home
Developed in partnership with the American College of Emergency Physicians
WASHINGTON, June 15, 2020 /PRNewswire/ -- As COVID-19 cases surge in more than a dozen states, hundreds of thousands of sickened Americans will be forced to manage their symptoms and self-care at home. To help them through this latest wave of the pandemic, The Learning Agency and the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP) have developed a free online course, How to Manage COVID-19 at Home, to teach those affected how to recognize the illness, and how to properly care for themselves and loved ones.
How to Manage COVID-19 at Home provides critical information and recommendations from physicians, including Jose Torradas MD, FACEP and Leigh Vinocur, MD, FACEP. Other experts include Hank Taliferro, CEO, Duke City Urgent Care and Dr. Susan Wilcox, Associate Professor of Emergency Medicine at Harvard Medical School.
"By providing this course free to the public, we hope to be a reliable counterweight to the misinformation that abounds," said Dr. Torradas. "Smart public health choices will produce better outcomes."
The course covers topics of importance to those with COVID-19, including how to use a pulse oximeter to track oxygen levels, how to limit the virus' spread within a family, and how to determine if symptoms require immediate medical attention.
"People should not hesitate to go to the ER, especially older individuals or those with pre-existing conditions," said Dr. Vinocur. "But we also need to give people good information to use at home."
How to Manage COVID-19 at Home contains other helpful resources such as checklists and worksheets. The course will be updated so that it remains a reliable source of advice and information.
