Cowboy Charcoal and Operation BBQ Relief Announce Official Partnership
Premium charcoal maker and national nonprofit join forces to support victims of disaster across the United States
STOCKTON, Calif., April 1, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Cowboy Charcoal, maker of top selling natural hardwood lump charcoal, chips and chunks announces today a new partnership with nonprofit Operation BBQ Relief (OBR), an organization that provides hot meals for individuals in any areas across the United States who have been affected by disasters.
OBR was born out of necessity in May of 2011. In the wake of the devastating tornado in Joplin, Missouri, competition barbecue teams across eight states rallied together to provide meals to emergency personnel and families in need, serving more than 120,000 barbecue meals in less than two weeks. The tornado, now classified as the second deadliest in U.S. history, left a path of destruction nearly six miles long and more than half a mile wide, killing 140 people and injuring more than 1000.
"We are incredibly proud to be partnering with Operation BBQ Relief, it is an organization we've long admired, and we couldn't be happier for the opportunity to come together to help people in need," said Don Crace, Vice President of Sales. "The goal of the partnership is to increase resources and awareness for disaster victims and first responders across America."
Cowboy Charcoal makes premium-grilling products for backyard chefs who crave authentic, smoky flavor in all of their barbecued foods. Cowboy is best known for its premium hardwood lump charcoal, made from high quality southern hardwoods in controlled, combustion kiln-style ovens.
"As a nonprofit, Operation BBQ Relief relies on partners and volunteers for success in living out our mission and our partnership with Cowboy provides a phenomenal opportunity to further that success," said Stan Hays, Executive Director and Co-Founder of Operation BBQ Relief. "At the end of the day, our goal is to be able to react faster and with greater force to support disaster victims, and the Cowboy team is helping to get us there."
The Operation BBQ Relief and Cowboy Charcoal partnership will be kicking-off its 2015 program in conjunction with barbecue season by traveling to barbecue events and competitions across the U.S. to raise funds and spread the word about its mission, sharing incredible food, recipes and tips along the way.
