Crisis Conference Urgently Organized to Help US Citizens Internationalize Assets Prior to FATCA

TORONTO, Jan. 9, 2014 /PRNewswire/ - The Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act (FATCA) is set to come into effect in the US in July of 2014 and is effectively a form of capital controls that will extremely limit the ability of Americans to internationalize their assets.

Already US citizens with money or assets outside of the US are supposed to file a FBAR and a Form 8389. Failure to file is punishable by law. FATCA will require foreign banks to report to the IRS all of their US account holders or pay a 30% withholding tax on all transactions going through the US.

Foreign financial institutions are already entering into agreements with the IRS or restructuring their businesses to stop serving US customers altogether.
