The live developer toolkit replaces the four or more vendors agent payments require today with a single API, combining card storage, Visa Intelligent Commerce and Mastercard Agent Pay credentials, and merchant checkout.
MIAMI, Oct. 8, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Crossmint, the multi-rail payment infrastructure platform, today launched Agent Commerce Toolkit, a developer toolkit that lets AI agents pay with any card and complete purchases at any online store. The toolkit handles the full purchase flow, from saving a card to completing checkout, in a single integration. It is live and self-serve today, and developers can integrate it in a single prompt. Additionally, an open-source reference app has been made available for developers to reference.
Today, giving an agent the ability to pay means combining several vendors: a card vault, a wallet, a browser automation tool and individual card network programs. When a purchase fails, it's hard to pinpoint which part broke. Agent Commerce Toolkit replaces that stack with one integration. It picks the right credential and checkout path for each purchase, so developers don't have to manage those choices themselves.
"Agent developers we talk to often think payments will be the easy part, and then they hit the gotchas," said Alfonso Gómez-Jordana Mañas, Co-Founder at Crossmint. "One card works and another doesn't. One store has an API and the next has a bot check. The checkout script that worked yesterday breaks today. We're seeing strong demand for agents to move from recommending purchases to making them, and developers shouldn't need four vendors to get there."
Why agent payments are more complex than they look
- Storing Cards Safely: Card data must stay in a PCI-compliant vault, and that's just a part of what's needed. Developers still have to build a card collection and a way to use the card at checkout without exposing card numbers to the agent.
- Getting credentials approved: Network agent programs like Visa Intelligent Commerce and Mastercard Agent Pay issue trusted, tokenized credentials, but only for certain cards. Each network also has its own integration and onboarding, and cards that aren't eligible need a separate path.
- Keeping users in the app: Many payment wallets pull users into a third-party app and make them create a separate account to approve purchases. That adds friction and causes users to drop off.
- Reaching merchants: Merchant APIs and agentic commerce protocols give reliable checkout, but only at stores that support them or have joined a specific platform.
- Completing checkout: Browser automation can reach any store, but logins, pop-ups, bot checks and payment forms often break it, and every attempt is expensive to run.
How Agent Commerce Toolkit works
- Card collection and storage: Card entry renders in the developer's own UI and goes directly to a PCI-compliant vault. The developer's servers get back a token and never touch card numbers, which keeps them out of PCI scope. Users add cards and approve purchases without leaving the agent's app.
- Credentials that work with any card: Where a card supports it, Agent Commerce Toolkit uses tokenized credentials from Visa Intelligent Commerce and Mastercard Agent Pay. These are scoped virtual cards with expiration dates and spend limits, so users stay in control of what each agent can spend. When a card isn't eligible, the toolkit still completes the purchase securely from the vault.
- Checkout at online stores: Agents make purchase requests in plain language, and Agent Commerce Toolkit handles the back-and-forth with the merchant. For each purchase, it chooses a checkout path based on availability, reliability and cost using embedded options like Shop Pay, agentic commerce protocols like Universal Commerce Protocol (UCP), or browser automation where neither exists. Developers don't integrate each protocol separately, and merchants don't need to add agent support.
"Agent developers want their agents to buy things. They don't want to become payment experts," said Alex Rawitz, Head of Agentic Payments at Crossmint. "With Agent Commerce Toolkit, a developer can go from a saved card to a completed order at a real store in an afternoon."
Available today
Agent Commerce Toolkit is live and self-serve. To integrate, developers point their AI coding tool, such as Claude Code or Cursor, to the Crossmint docs and describe what they want to build. The coding agent reads the docs, installs the SDK and adds card collection and checkout to the app. Test cards are available in the docs for sandbox testing quickly.
Developers who want to see the full flow first can try the open-source reference app on GitHub. It shows every step: saving a card, using that card at real merchants, and letting an agent complete checkout on the user's behalf. These are live purchases, not a simulation. Developers can fork the app, customize it for their own agent and go live.
