Crown says: Lives for Lamborghinis? It's Time to Reform the Ethic of Human Life Following Release of Planned Parenthood Videos
KNOXVILLE, Tenn., July 24, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- "Few stories so clearly illustrate the Biblical truth that 'the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil' (I Timothy 6:10) than the controversy that has exploded following the release of undercover videos from the Center for Medical Progress in which Planned Parenthood doctors talk about dismembering unborn children to sell tissue and body parts," observed Crown CEO Chuck Bentley in a national column.
Bentley wrote: "The mindset that can embrace the sale of the hearts, lungs, limbs, livers and tiny humanity of the unborn begins with rejecting the authority of God who declared every life to be precious. That purposeful and intricate miracle that brings about life is beautifully described in Psalm 139: 'For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother's womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful.'
Contrast that view with the video footage of Planned Parenthood Federation of America's Senior Director of Medical Services Dr. Deborah Nucatola detailing a 'menu' of aborted baby hearts, lungs and livers that she can make available for buyers. Or consider President of the Planned Parenthood Medical Council Dr. Mary Gatter saying that they can alter the way that unborn lives are ended to a "less crunchy technique" to get more whole specimens for sale, as she haggles over whether $100 per usable body part is enough, saying at one point: "Let me just figure out what others are getting, and if this is in the ballpark, then it's fine, if it's still low, then we can bump it up… I want a Lamborghini."
"A Lamborghini for a life. The infinitely valuable, the priceless being traded for the temporal gain of a worthless status symbol. Yes, this is evil," said Bentley.
Christians and people of faith must act, Bentley advised. Certainly the investigations underway at the state and federal levels are needed. People of faith should call on our government officials to de-fund Planned Parenthood, the nation's number one abortion provider, to put dollars to work for the needy in other settings, and to let companies know that when they support Planned Parenthood, we will not support them.
But that's not enough. It's also important to work together to welcome every life and to protect the weak and helpless; to support our local crisis pregnancy centers that help mothers through the birth process and subsequent demands of raising an infant and to examine our own hearts to ensure that we love people and not money.
"These horrific events have not taken place in a vacuum," said Bentley. "We also need to take a hard look at our culture, to consider how we've turned our unborn children into commodities. Consider what Jesus said, 'Whoever welcomes one of these little children in my name welcomes me; and whoever welcomes me does not welcome me but the one who sent me.'"
