CSIS and Chevron Launch Innovative Project to Advance U.S. Leadership in International Economic and Community Development

WASHINGTON, June 3, 2011 /PRNewswire/ --  The Center for Strategic & International Studies (CSIS) and Chevron Corporation (NYSE: CVX) today announced a groundbreaking project designed to create a new model for international economic and community development in Washington. Titled, "The Project on U.S. Leadership in Development", the multi-year initiative aims to generate innovative thinking on best ways to integrate U.S. public and private sector resources and interests with non-government organizations (NGOs) and foreign governments to create sustainable partnerships. A core goal of the initiative is to develop and present actionable, bipartisan policy recommendations by 2012 for implementation by current and future Administrations.

A major element of the initiative is "The Chevron Forum on Development", a high-level speaker series designed to explore new ideas on global development with a special focus on the important and changing role of the private sector. The Forum will engage innovative leaders and thinkers from the private sector, donor country governments, NGOs and the developing world. It will identify key areas of strength and weakness, explore ways the U.S. government can more strategically and effectively engage the private sector, and identify priority recommendations and findings for policymakers as well as key development stakeholders.

The Forum's inaugural session features former U.S. National Security Advisor Gen. James L. Jones and former U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice in a discussion on the critical importance of development in U.S. foreign and national security policy.
