NEW YORK, Feb. 16, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Dahlman Rose & Company, LLC, a leading investment bank specializing in transportation, energy, and other commodities-focused industries in the global supply chain, announced today that it has named James Crandell as Managing Director and Global Head of Oilfield Services Research. Including this appointment, Dahlman Rose has increased the size of its research department fivefold since the beginning of 2008 and is committed to providing the deepest and broadest coverage in its focus sectors.
"The appointment of James Crandell as the Global Head of Oilfield Services Research reaffirms our commitment to build a team of top-ranked analysts dedicated to thought-driven, value-added research," said Simon Rose, Chief Executive Officer of Dahlman Rose. "Dahlman Rose has distinguished itself as a global thought leader in transportation, energy, commodities, and infrastructure sectors through the strategic expansion into interconnected verticals. We are pleased to once again attract an award-winning acclaimed and consistently top-performing analyst in a globally critical sector. The demand for hydrocarbons grows exponentially with the continued trends towards industrialization, urbanization, and 'consumerization,' and these trends have helped to shape the direction of our research product."
Mr. Crandell, 57, has more than 30 years of experience as a Wall Street analyst focusing on Oilfield Services. Previously, he served as Managing Director at Barclays Capital plc following its acquisition of Lehman Brothers in 2009. Mr. Crandell originally joined Lehman Brothers in 1999 following the buyout of Salomon Brothers. From 1981–1998, Mr. Crandell held various posts at Salomon Brothers, including Managing Director, Senior Oil Services Analyst and Director of U.S. Equity Research, before his promotion to Global Head of Equity Research in 1994. Throughout his career, Mr. Crandell has pioneered key research products, including proprietary exploration and production spending surveys. He has consistently been ranked as the top analyst covering the Oilfield Services sector by Institutional Investor, including three of the past four years and nine years in total. In addition, Mr. Crandell has been ranked the top analyst in his field by Greenwich Research in each of the past four years and 11 years in total.
"I am excited to join Dahlman Rose's top-rated research team," said Mr. Crandell. "The firm's sector specialization provides a unique opportunity to offer investors more timely and meaningful research compared to bulge-bracket firms. Based on the continued increase in E&P spending, combined with the rising price of crude oil, we believe we are on the verge of a sustainable cyclical upturn in the global Oilfield Services industry. I look forward to building the premier franchise for Oilfield Services research at Dahlman Rose and further strengthening the firm's leading reputation across its focus sectors."
Mr. Crandell received his MBA from Hofstra University and his BA from St. Lawrence University.
