NEW YORK, Dec. 13, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Avero announced today that its founder, Damian Mogavero, is stepping down from his position as Chief Executive Officer, effective January 5, 2017. He is leaving to pursue new opportunities related to hospitality and will remain involved in Avero in an advisory capacity.
Damian is releasing a book, "The Underground Culinary Tour: How the New Metrics of Today's Top Restaurants Are Transforming How America Eats", to be published by Crown Business on January 24, 2017. The book celebrates what he refers to as 'New Guard Restaurateurs', people who embrace data-driven insights and emerging food trends to run their restaurants and create better guest experiences.
"Avero would not be what it is today without Damian's unparalleled passion and innovation," said Oscar L. Tang, Chairman of the Avero Board of Directors. "We are sad to see him go, but we share Damian's excitement about his new endeavors and wish him the best of luck."
For the last 17+ years, Mogavero's entrepreneurial spirit has fueled Avero's growth from a small business run out of his studio apartment to a rapidly growing company serving 10,000 restaurants in 70 countries. Following Mogavero's departure in January, Douglas Hsieh, Avero's current President and CFO, will take on the role of CEO.
"I am honored to take the reins from Damian and continue to realize his vision of revolutionizing the hospitality industry," said Hsieh.
As one of Avero's founding board members, Douglas has been involved with the company since its inception in 1999, but he officially joined the management team in 2006. Over the past decade, he has helped expand the company through strategic partnerships, new sales channels, and more. Damian and Douglas have known each other for over 25 years, meeting as investment banking trainees and continuing their relationship through careers in finance and eventually Avero.
