Dan Gaylin Announced as Acting President of NORC at the University of Chicago

CHICAGO, Aug. 5, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Board of Trustees at NORC at the University of Chicago announced today that Dan Gaylin, NORC's current Executive Vice President of Research Programs, has been named the Acting President. The Board of Trustees is currently conducting a search to replace outgoing President and CEO John Thompson who was recently appointed to lead the U.S. Census Bureau.

Gaylin has been at NORC for over 12 years, most recently as Executive Vice President for Research Programs.  In this role he oversaw all of NORC's research departments, guiding implementation, development, partnerships and collaborations, and strategic planning. His nearly thirty years of experience spans research organizations, government, and the private sector. Prior to NORC Dan worked in the Office of Health Policy at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services where he directed research and strategic planning, as a Vice President at the Lewin Group consultancy, and as a researcher at the Urban Institute.

Throughout his career, Gaylin has conducted numerous complex policy and evaluation projects that combine primary data collection and analysis, analysis of existing data, and qualitative research methods to gather and distill complex information of interest to decision-makers, practitioners, and the general public into recommendations for improving policy, programs, and practice. His research has been funded by a wide range of Federal agencies, U.S. foundations, and private sector organizations. He has published his work widely in peer-reviewed journals such as the New England Journal of Medicine, JAMA, and Health Affairs.

Dan holds an M.P.A. in policy from the Woodrow Wilson School of Public International Affairs at Princeton University and a B.A. in the Biological Basis of Behavior from the University of Pennsylvania.
