Dana Holding Corporation Plans Freewheel, Lockup on Large Spicer® Powershift Transmissions

SHANGHAI, Nov. 22, 2010 /PRNewswire/ -- Today at Bauma China 2010, Dana Holding Corporation (NYSE: DAN) announced the company's plans for freewheel and lockup with integral torsional vibration damper on Spicer® powershift transmissions above 90 kW (120 horsepower).

Freewheel and lockup can help OEMs improve overall drivetrain performance and optimize the efficiency of their product lines by 7-10 percent on average, depending on the duty cycle.

These optional upgrades will take advantage of new, more robust freewheel designs that are mandatory for off-highway equipment operating in increasingly demanding environments.

In addition to driving fuel savings and emissions reductions, transmissions and torque converters configured with freewheel and lockup also reduce engine cooling needs, a significant benefit to vehicle designers pressed to find space for particulate filters and other new devices required by Tier 4 engines.

Dana will offer the new features in two configurations: freewheel only, or lockup incorporating freewheel and torsional vibration damper.  

Dana is exhibiting a Spicer® Model TE32 transmission with freewheel and lockup in Hall E5, Stand 528, at the Shanghai New International Expo Centre through Nov. 26.
