Dana Holding Corporation Showcases Drivetrains for Powering Construction Boom in India at Inaugural bC India 2011

Located at Stand H.18/I.19, Dana will present advanced solutions that include axles, transmissions, driveshafts, and electronic controls for everything from small backhoe loaders and soil compactors to mid-sized pick & carry cranes and large concrete mixers.

At bC India, Dana will exhibit:

• a complete drivetrain system for 16-tonne front-end loaders;
• the Spicer® Model 192 rigid planetary drive axle for soil compactors and rollers;
• the Spicer Model 112 rigid planetary drive axle for backhoe loaders and front-end loaders;
• the DDAC™ 24/25ZHS Series hub reduction axle for concrete mixers and other heavy-duty construction vehicles; and
• a demonstration of new freewheel and lockup capabilities for Spicer powershift transmissions above 90 kW (120 horsepower).

16-Tonne Front-End Loader System

Dana offers an optimized drivetrain solution for 16-tonne (17.5-ton) front-end loader vehicle applications through a system that includes a Spicer 319 summing motor, two Spicer Model 114 planetary rigid axles, and the Spicer Compact Series Model 2035 driveshaft.  

The Spicer 319 summing motor transfer case provides maximum tractive performance and high efficiency.  Targeted for applications requiring 104 to 164 kW (140 to 220 horsepower), this transfer case employs two hydrostatic motors each with optimized gear ratios.  To maximize efficiency at higher vehicle travel speeds, a clutch automatically disconnects the low-speed, high-gear-ratio motor, allowing the high-speed motor to function alone.

The Spicer 319 summing motor transfer case delivers seamless continuous variable transmission (CVT) performance from 0 to 40 km/h (0 to 25 mph).  

The Spicer Model 114 drive axle includes a limited-slip differential lock that provides a 45-percent locking capacity, delivering excellent tractive force and nimble vehicle steering for front-end loader applications.  The Spicer Model 114 axle can be configured with a variety of other hydraulic-locking differential options, including dog clutch and multi-disc clutch.  Inboard wet disc brakes offer proven fail-safe stopping performance and energy absorption, while a fail-safe park brake featuring internal negative SAHR is available as an option.  

The Spicer Model 114 axle includes 6.00-to-1 ratio outboard planetary wheel ends with 425 mm wheel B.C. mountings, self-adjusting internal wet brakes, and a trunnion mounting option.

Spicer® Model 192 Rigid Planetary Drive Axle

The Spicer Model 192 planetary rigid axle is one of a complete line of axles for 7.5- to 10.0-tonne (8.5- to 11.5-ton) soil compactors and rollers. With an eight-tonne (9-ton) gross axle weight rating (GAWR) and 33,970 daNm of maximum output torque, the Model 192 axle features a deep axle ratio that allows a hydrostatic motor to be connected directly to the axle input pinion.

Hypoid bevel gearing supplies high reversion torsional capability and increased efficiency, and 100-percent lock, limited-slip, or no-spin differential lock options are available.

Dana also offers a Model 193HD axle with a nine-tonne (10-ton) GAWR and a maximum output torque of 53,000 daNm.

Spicer Model 112 Rigid Planetary Drive Axle

Designed for use with 7.5- to 8.5-tonne (8.5- to 9.5-ton) backhoe loaders and other construction applications, the Spicer Model 112 rigid planetary drive axle offers very compact system solution for construction vehicle designers.  

With spiral bevel gearing, the Model 112 delivers high-reverse torsional capability, and a wide wheel bearing spread accommodates high side loads.  The standard four-pinion differential can be upgraded with a hydraulic-applied 100-percent lock, limited-slip, or no-spin differential lock option.

The Model 112 axle supplies a 6-to-1 planetary final drive ratio as well as a 16,000 daN (static) and 8,000 daN (dynamic) load capacity.  It is also equipped with high-energy, hydraulic-applied, inboard wet disc service brakes, and the choice of an internal spring-applied, hydraulically released (SAHR) brake, external dry caliper, external SAHR, or drum brake.

DDAC™ 24/25ZHS Series Hub Reduction Axle

Produced by Dongfeng Dana Axle Company, Dana's joint venture with Dongfeng Motor Co., Ltd. in China, the DDAC™ 24/25ZHS Series hub reduction axle is designed for concrete mixers and other heavy-duty construction vehicles with single gross axle weight rating (GAWR) up to 16 tonnes (17.5 tons) and a tandem GAWR up to 32 tonnes (35 tons).

Featuring a lightweight, fabricated housing for greater payload and improved fuel economy, the DDAC™ 24/25ZHS Series hub reduction axle offers a primary gear reduction from 1.125 to 1.933, as well as a robust planetary hub reduction ratio of 3.947:1 and 3.478:1.  A double-hub reduction version is also available.

The DDAC 24/25ZHS Series hub reduction axle is designed with a 300mm gear to optimize ground clearance and a standard 410mm x 220mm drum brake fit-up.

Freewheel, Lockup for Large Spicer Powershift Transmissions

At bC India, Dana will exhibit a Spicer TE32 transmission that illustrates the optional freewheel and lockup with integral torsional vibration damper available on Spicer powershift transmissions above 90 kW (120 horsepower).

Freewheel and lockup can help OEMs improve overall drivetrain performance and optimize the efficiency of their product lines by 7-10 percent on average, depending on the duty cycle.  These upgrades take advantage of new, more robust freewheel designs that are mandatory for off-highway equipment operating in increasingly demanding environments.

Dana offers these new features in two configurations: freewheel only, or lockup incorporating freewheel and torsional vibration damper.
