Daniel Traynor Named TVA's Chief Information Officer

KNOXVILLE, Tenn., March 4 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Tennessee Valley Authority has named Daniel Traynor as vice president and chief information officer, responsible for TVA's information resource technologies and operations, President and Chief Executive Officer Tom Kilgore announced Thursday.

Traynor comes to TVA from Southern Company Services, a subsidiary of Southern Company of Atlanta, where he was director of infrastructure services. Traynor, who will report directly to Kilgore, will be responsible for leveraging technology and setting strategies for the corporation's information resources.  

"Daniel's role is an integral part of TVA's new organizational structure, designed to help us become stronger, more efficient and more accountable," Kilgore said. "The position also recognizes the growing importance of technology in TVA's commitment to serve our customers."

TVA Vice President Jacinda Woodward has been serving as acting chief information officer since last fall.

Traynor, who became director of infrastructure services at Southern Company Services in Atlanta in 2003, was responsible for the utility company's computer operations and telecommunications activities, including execution of a strategic plan and a "Green IT" program that helped conserve 4 million kilowatt-hours of electricity per year. Traynor also has previous experience at Southern Company subsidiaries Georgia Power and Alabama Power.

Traynor will be based at TVA's Chattanooga Office Complex.

The Tennessee Valley Authority, a corporation owned by the U.S. government provides electricity for utility and business customers in most of Tennessee and parts of Alabama, Mississippi, Kentucky, Georgia, North Carolina and Virginia – an area of 80,000 square miles with a population of 9 million. TVA operates 29 hydroelectric dams, 11 coal-fired power plants, three nuclear plants and 11 natural gas-fired power facilities and supplies up to 36,000 megawatts of electricity, delivered over 16,000 miles of high-voltage power lines. TVA, which makes no profits and receives no taxpayer money, is funded by sales of electricity to its customers. Electricity prices in TVA's service territory are below the national average.
