Data Conversion Laboratory Is Digitizing Over Two Million Pages for the Bureau of Economic Analysis
FRESH MEADOWS, N.Y., Dec. 12, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Data Conversion Laboratory (DCL), industry leader in converting content into digital formats, is currently providing digitization services to the Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA) through the Library of Congress' (LOC) Federal Library and Information Network (FEDLINK) program.
Over two million pages of various types of internal documents that serve as valuable research materials for the agency's staff are being digitized to make them more searchable and accessible. This months-long project will include OCR processing, generation of metadata, digitization of microforms, maps, posters, and computer print-outs, to name just a few processes in this highly complex venture.
As an agency of the US Department of Commerce, the BEA, through research and analysis, strives to help the American public understand the performance of the Nation's economy. Thusly, the integrity and accessibility of research materials used for this essential work are of paramount importance.
"We are so pleased to have the opportunity to work with the BEA on this significant project. The project is running very smoothly supported by DCL's automated production control system," said Amy Williams, DCL's COO. "This process controls the workflow and allows full tracking of each item being processed, providing a complete, secure web-based reporting and approval platform for the BEA. This is our first contract through the LOC/FEDLINK program and we hope to have a chance to work on many more going forward."
Another notable aspect to this partnership is the fact that it is done through the LOC/FEDLINK program. FEDLINK offers centralized acquisition services for the federal library and information center community, as well as to other federal agencies and offices, including those in the District of Columbia.
Projects awarded from the FEDLINK program are guided by the highest professional standards, guidelines, and best practices. DCL's 35 years of experience and integrity in content conversion met and exceeded the high level of expectations for such valuable work.
