Davenport University Announces Launch of Employment Guarantee

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich., Aug. 20, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Davenport University announced today it will introduce an Employment Guarantee for all accounting students. The Davenport University Employment Guarantee will provide additional semesters of education for accounting graduates who have met all requirements and are unable to find employment in their field of study within six months of graduation.

"When we launched Vision 2015 back in 2010, the Employment Guarantee was a key component," said Dr. Richard Pappas, President of Davenport University. "This program isn't a gimmick. This is Davenport putting its money where its mouth is. We are confident in our ability to prepare students for in-demand careers, and we're willing to back that up with a guarantee."

To be eligible, students must maintain a 3.0 GPA in their major and overall, complete an internship and other experiential learning components, be eligible for legal employment in the U.S., and conduct a thorough, documented job search. Qualified graduates unable to find employment may receive up to three additional semesters – up to 48 credits total – of instruction tuition-free, with students responsible for fees and books. The additional courses, worth up to $30,000, should help most students obtain a second major.

"We are introducing the program for Bachelor of Business Administration – Accounting, Accounting Fraud Investigation, and Honors Professional Accountancy students to test our internal capabilities to support this program," said Shelley Lowe, Executive Director of Career Services. "There are a significant number of services to students associated with the employment guarantee, and we need to track resources needed to support the program as well as the impact it has on students, since this program provides a significant incentive for them to engage in activities that are voluntary."
