ST. PETERSBURG, Fla., June 2, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- David Patrick Nixon, chief executive officer of InformedDNA, has been appointed to the Board of Directors of Facing Our Risk of Cancer Empowered (FORCE).
In joining the Board of Directors, Nixon will bring his 23 years of healthcare experience to bear, providing his expertise in business leadership, organizational development, growth management and entrepreneurial drive.
"After supporting FORCE for years through our work at InformedDNA, I personally welcome the opportunity to take on this fiduciary role at a time when FORCE is growing rapidly," Nixon said. "The effectiveness of FORCE's programs is increasing through their education and awareness efforts which is helping to grow society's knowledge about hereditary cancers. I look forward to serving the board in this leadership capacity to help propel FORCE's initiatives ever forward."
FORCE is the nation's only nonprofit organization dedicated to families facing hereditary breast, ovarian and related cancers and InformedDNA is a leader in empowering personalized healthcare through genetic benefits and genetic counseling services. Both organizations aim to teach the importance of genetic counseling and the appropriate use of genetic testing for individuals with a family health history of cancer and how that family history can affect an individual's risk of hereditary cancers.
With aligned goals of patient empowerment through knowledge, InformedDNA and FORCE frequently collaborate on various projects and have for several years.
"We are fortunate to add David's talents to our board," said Sue Friedman, founder of FORCE. "As a long time FORCE supporter with an extensive background in business, healthcare and marketing, we welcome his knowledge and expertise to our Board of Directors."
In addition to his healthcare experience, David brings a record of entrepreneurial leadership to his role as CEO of InformedDNA and board member for FORCE. Notably, David helped design and launch a groundbreaking program with national health insurer Cigna to improve access to genetic counseling and genetic testing decision support for its customers and network providers. This first-of-its-kind Cigna initiative is garnering wide praise.
Prior to joining InformedDNA, David founded The Nixon Group, a consumer and healthcare marketing communications firm serving clients ranging from the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention and the Food and Drug Administration to Noven Pharmaceuticals and several state departments of health.
