DB Networks Releases White Paper Taking a Critical Look at Popular SQL Injection Defenses

SAN DIEGO, Oct. 14, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- DB Networks, an innovator of continuous monitoring and behavioral analysis based cyber security appliances for the core network, today announces the release of "SQL Injection Defense: There are no Silver Bullets." It is available for download at dbnetworks.com. From its emergence over fifteen years ago, SQL injection has proven to be an extremely challenging threat. In a recent Ponemon Institute study, 65% of the 595 respondents indicated their organization experienced one or more SQL injection attacks that evaded their firewalls and other perimeter defenses in the past year. At issue is the fact that organizations need to get their defenses right 100% of the time whereas an attacker only needs to get it right once to breach all the records in a database. Making matters worse are the variety of preventative measures that each claim to be the SQL injection ultimate solution - the silver bullet.

The white paper provides an overview of the popular SQL injection countermeasures and why these approaches have largely failed - leaving SQL injection as the single largest database vulnerability organizations face. A defense-in-depth strategy is proposed that can significantly reduce an organizations attack surface.
