DC-Area GYN Surgeons Launch Patient Advocacy Series

WASHINGTON, July 15, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Encouraging women to become masters of their GYN health, The Center for Innovative GYN Care (CIGC) will host a free educational series this summer in Rockville, Maryland.

Kicking off on July 20^th at the Rockville Hilton Hotel (1750 Rockville Pike), the first educational forum will focus on conditions that cause infertility, such as large uterine fibroids, severe endometriosis and pelvic adhesions, and minimally invasive surgical techniques to treat these conditions, including new fibroid removal options. The event starts at 5:30 PM and is open to the public.

"Many women have trouble getting pregnant and turn to fertility specialists without getting evaluated by a GYN specialist for a treatable condition," said Dr. Natalya Danilyants, co-founder of CIGC. "For example, about a third of women have fibroids, some of which can be very large. At the first event, Minimally Invasive Fibroid Removal & Conditions That Affect Fertility, Dr. Danilyants and her partner Dr. Paul MacKoul will explain how uterine fibroids, severe endometriosis, ovarian cysts and other conditions can all be treated with minimally invasive surgical techniques that are available to women in the DC-area and can lead to better outcomes and faster recovery times.

CIGC has developed two innovative surgical treatments for GYN conditions: LAAM-BUAL, which can remove all fibroids regardless of size, number or location using a "mini" incision at the bikini line, and DualPortGYN, a minimally invasive technique that uses only two paper cut-like five millimeter incisions to treat many gynecological conditions, such as endometriosis, ovarian cysts and pelvic adhesions. Both procedures offer faster recovery times and fewer complications than open or robotic methods. Both can be performed on an outpatient basis, returning patients to their daily routines sooner.

CIGC will host another educational briefing on September 14 to help women become better advocates for themselves when considering options for a hysterectomy. By age 60, one in three women will have a hysterectomy, so it is vital for women to understand the risks associated with robotic and morcellator-assisted surgeries, which are commonly used across the country. The session will also focus on new treatment options for complex gynecological conditions.
