Defense Health Board Meeting

FALLS CHURCH, Va., June 4 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Defense Health Board today announced details of its June 2010 meeting.  Sessions will take place on June 8 and 9, 2010.  On June 8, briefings and discussions will be held at the Sheraton National Hotel, 900 S. Orme Street, Arlington, Virginia. The morning session from 9:30 am to 12:45 pm and the afternoon session from 1:45 pm to 5:00 pm will be open to the public in accordance with Federal Advisory Committee Act provisions.  The sessions on June 9, at the Industrial College of the Armed Forces, Ft. McNair, Washington, D.C., will be closed to the public because the material under discussion is classified in the interest of national defense and foreign policy.

The June meeting will include two Board votes; one on the revision of Defense Health Board bylaws and the other on evidence-based metrics as presented by the Psychological Health External Advisory Subcommittee.  According to Dr. Wayne Lednar, co-vice president of the Board, "The Defense Health Board, as an external and independent body, considers thoughtfully the issues it is asked to review and evaluate.  We bring to each issue the expertise and experience of all Board members in order to offer the Department comprehensive and valued recommendations.  At the heart of each issue addressed by the Board are our men and women serving in the Armed Forces and those responsible for their health and well-being."

In addition to the votes on June 8, the Board will receive information briefings from two Defense Health Board subcommittees:  Department of Defense Task Force on the Prevention of Suicide by Members of the Armed Forces and the Subcommittee on Military/Occupational Health and Medical Surveillance.  Additionally, the Board will receive information briefs regarding public health emergency management in DoD, the Defense and Veterans pain management initiative, convalescent plasma therapy, and DoD Haiti relief efforts.
