Delta Electronics Takes the Lead in Setting Science Based Targets as the First Company in Taiwan to Pass SBTi
Dedicated to the global initiative to control global warming by 2°C
TAIPEI, Taiwan, Dec. 21, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- With its continued focus on climate change, Delta Electronics has taken the lead in establishing science-based targets by proposing to lower its carbon intensity by 56.6% by 2025 using 2014 as the base year. In December 2017, Delta passed the SBTi (Science Based Targets initiative) evaluation, becoming the first company in Taiwan, as well as one of the first 100 companies in the world, to pass the evaluation. After achieving a 50% reduction in energy intensity in 2014 from 2009, Delta has once again demonstrated its resolve for carbon reduction and energy savings by responding to the global initiative to control global warming by 2°C.
Delta's Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Ping Cheng, stated that, Delta is dedicated to its role as an international corporate citizen and to its pioneering commitment for carbon reduction, and has taken on more responsibility and pressure to deal with climate change and global warming. For the past seven years, the 1,177 energy saving schemes carried out at Delta's facilities have lowered carbon emissions by 124,462 tons. Subsequent carbon reduction actions will be even more challenging for the company. For the future, Delta will achieve its carbon reduction objectives by actively developing innovative energy-saving and carbon reduction technologies, continuing energy-saving enhancements of production facilities, and increasing its utilization of renewable energy and clean energy.
In 2015 Delta signed onto the "We Mean Business" Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) program set by the CDP, the UN Global Compact, World Wide Fund for Nature, and World Resources Institute (WRI), which provides science-based targets for sustainability. This SBT project was collaborated with PwC Taiwan. The commitment to keep global warming below 2°C is based on International Energy Agency (IEA) simulation to determine global carbon budgets of reasonable emissions for companies in specific industries.
In addition to Delta's Science Based Targets and information disclosure for carbon management, the company received leadership honors by the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) in both 2016 and 2017. Delta also actively participated in the climate change disclosures of its supply chain in 2017, and received an A- ranking.
