Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi Receives Congressional Global Champion Award from Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation

WASHINGTON, June 25, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi received the Congressional Global Champion Award on Tuesday, June 24 from the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation (EGPAF) in honor of her longstanding commitment to an AIDS-free future.

In accepting the award, Leader Pelosi recalled her first meeting Elizabeth Glaser in 1988 and being embolden by her story and her passion and that she was first, and foremost, a mom.

"There's nothing like the determination of a mother," said Leader Pelosi. "When [Elizabeth Glaser] died we lost a champion, but her legacy lives on. She made a difference in the world," said Leader Pelosi. "We are going to continue this fight until no child has AIDS."

Leader Pelosi has been an outspoken advocate for those infected with and affected by HIV since the beginning of the epidemic. She understands too well the devastation HIV can cause. Her commitment has been critical in advancing the fight against the disease, seeing firsthand how research, public policies, and communities can act together to make real, lifesaving change.

The evening reception celebrated EGPAF's 25 years of working to end AIDS in children worldwide. Supporters from around Washington, and the globe came together to commemorate EGPAF and its commitment to create a world where no child has AIDS.
