Denver Nonprofit Celebrates Five-Year Anniversary, Launches Endowment Fund
After Five Successful Years of Providing Free Medical Care to Underprivileged Children, Mending Faces Opens New Fund to Plan for Future
DENVER, June 3, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Mending Faces (http://www.mendingfaces.org/), a Denver-based nonprofit that restores hope to children born with cleft lip and cleft palate by providing free surgeries and care, is proud to celebrate its five year anniversary with the announcement of an endowment fund for future growth. The Endowment Fund was opened with Rose Community Foundation (http://www.rcfdenver.org/), which uses leadership, grant making and donor engagement to invest in strategic and innovative solutions to enduring problems and emerging issues. Rose Community Foundation generously provided Mending Faces with a grant to add to the amount that the organization raised to open the Endowment Fund. In addition, Rose will provide Mending Faces with educational workshops and programs to aid in their growth.
Mending Faces' announcement is on the heels of its fifth and most successful Medical Mission to date (February 8 -15, 2015, in Kalibo, Aklan, Philippines), where the volunteer team – mostly from the Denver area – treated a record 83 patients and completed 87 surgeries. To learn more about the most recent mission, visit (http://www.mendingfaces.org/2015medicalmission).
The new Endowment Fund will allow Mending Faces to prepare for growth including the expansion of programs to other countries and/or having multiple Medical Missions each year; provide school scholarships and speech therapy for patients and children in-need in the Philippines; and create a medical center in the Philippines for the community and other non-profits to access year-round.
"An investment in our future ensures that children born with cleft lip and cleft palate will have access to much-needed medical services for generations to come," said Dr. Mimi Wong, Mending Faces Founding Member and Board Chair. "It also will allow Mending Faces to create more community programs, and one day expand into other areas of the world to reach more children in need of our care. We are grateful to the Rose Community Foundation for their financial support and helping us plan for our future."
"It is an honor for Rose Community Foundation to support Mending Faces through an endowment incentive matching grant," said Gaye Leonard, Director of Philanthropic Services at Rose Community Foundation. "We commend their vision to create an endowment as a long-term solution to help ensure they will be able to continue providing vital services to children in need."
Mending Faces' next Medical Mission is set for Feb. 7-12, 2016, in Kalibo, Aklan, Philippines. If you are interested in supporting the cause, please visit: (http://www.mendingfaces.org/donate-today/).
About Mending Faces:
Mending Faces was founded in Denver, CO. in 2010 by a passionate, highly experienced group of medical professionals and others to make a life-changing difference for children born with facial deformities in the Philippines. The organization conducts an annual medical mission to the Philippines to provide surgical care to impoverished children born with cleft lip and cleft palate. The care is provided at no cost to the children or their families. Healthcare professionals and outreach personnel donate their time and expertise, and volunteers fund 100 percent of their own travel and lodging expenses. The surgery allows these children to lead productive lives in their community and culture. For more information visit www.mendingfaces.org.
