Many of our members remember and know Rita Lusen, who, 5 years ago was diagnosed with breast cancer. Back in 2008 we raised over $17,000 for breast cancer's Race for the Cure with Team Devon Fitness for Rita.
We are happy to report that Rita is doing very well! Since then she resigned from her corporate job and joined BreastCancer.Org in September 2011 as their Vice President of Corporate Partnerships and Marketing.
Rita chose to work for BreastCancer.Org because of the invaluable help, information and support she received from them while she was going through her diagnosis and treatment. They were so essential to her education and recovery that she decided to join their team to help others going through the same experience.
Devon Fitness Club is proud to partner with this wonderful organization!

About BreastCancer.Org: Theworld's leading online breast health and breast cancer resource, reaching nearly 13 million people across 230 countries!
WHO IS BREASTCANCER.ORG:
Breastcancer.org was founded in 2000 by breast oncologist Dr. Marisa Weiss, born out of her conviction that women with breast cancer need far more information and support than a physician's visit can provide. Today, Breastcancer.org is the world's leading online breast health and breast cancer resource reaching nearly 13 million people a year from 230 countries who depend on the site for the most current, understandable, and reliable information available and for our robust online support community.
WHAT THEY DO
Breastcancer.org is a nonprofit organization empowering those affected by breast cancer by providing them with knowledge and connecting them with a caring community. Through this incomparable resource, they find answers to their questions, the information they need to make critical medical decisions, and the peer support and companionship to help them along their journey.
WHAT THEY DELIVER
In the crowded and confusing world of online medical information, Breastcancer.org stands out as the place where anyone affected by breast cancer can find what they need. With over 6,000 pages of expert-reviewed, up-to-date medical information, the site walks users through each phase of the disease - from diagnosis, treatment, and side effects, to managing the everyday realities of breast cancer. The site also offers an extensive section on prevention, with advice on environmental and lifestyle choices that can reduce the risk of developing breast cancer or its recurrence. In addition to providing invaluable information, Breastcancer.org hosts a close-knit online community where those affected by breast cancer share their experiences, knowledge, and support. Breastcancer.org's expertise and community are also optimized for access by mobile devices.
Breastcancer.org recently launched two major initiatives:
- Breastcancer.org Espanol:In an effort to bring the most up-to-date breast cancer information to the Spanish-speaking community, Breastcancer.org recently unveiled a Spanish-language version of the website. The critical need for this resource is apparent in the alarming statistic that, while Hispanic women are less likely than women of other ethnicities to be diagnosed with breast cancer, they have a higher death rate from the disease. Actress Judy Reyes (Gun Hill Road, Scrubs) and oncologist Dr. Generosa Grana joined Breastcancer.org to raise awareness of the impact of breast cancer on the Latino community and educate them about this comprehensive, new resource that can ensure they make informed decisions about their breast cancer care.
- Think Pink, Live Green is Breastcancer.org's global breast cancer prevention initiative. Grounded in science and medicine and based on the position that prevention is the best cure, this educational campaign aims to empower women and girls with information to help reduce their risk of breast cancer or breast cancer recurrence. Developed from research by Dr. Marisa Weiss, president of Breastcancer.org, and Joan Ruderman, Ph.D. of Harvard Medical School, this educational effort includes a step-by-step guide for making breast-healthy lifestyle choices, a dedicated section of Breastcancer.org that includes expert columns and informational videos, and a program to reach communities across the country through live presentations and speaking engagements. The next phase of Think Pink, Live Green envisions expanding the campaign and creating a movement to reach the women of developing nations where breast cancer education is nearly non-existent.
