DGA: Brown Knows What It Takes, GOP Candidates Unprepared to Lead
WASHINGTON, March 2 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Please see statements below from Democratic Governors Association Chair Governor Jack Markell and Executive Director Nathan Daschle on Governor Jerry Brown's announcement today that he's running for governor.
"Jerry Brown made clear today what we had hoped for some time – that he is running to get Californians back to work," said DGA Chair Gov. Jack Markell. "As Governor Brown said in his announcement, he pairs an insider's knowledge of how California works with an outsider's perspective on what needs to change in Sacramento. He knows what needs to be fixed and has the ability and insight to actually do it. He understands California's needs, people and, most importantly, potential. Governor Brown knows what it takes to create jobs, to bring people together and put his state first. He's spent his entire professional life doing just that, not simply talking about it."
California is a marquee pickup opportunity for Democrats this fall. The DGA launched the California Accountability Project last month and has already released original footage of both GOP candidates online, as well as shared extensive research on both of their true records.
"Whether it's Meg Whitman dodging debates and refusing to release her taxes or Steve Poizner cozying up to insurance industry insiders, we know that neither of them is ready for the momentous task of leading California," Daschle said. "California needs innovative leadership, not the same short-sighted vision that has crippled the largest state in the country."
