DiaperShops.com Reveals Findings of 2nd Annual Cloth Diapering Pulse Survey
Survey finds cloth diapering is easier than parents first expected
SOUTH PARIS, Maine, Sept. 21, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Leading online cloth diapering retailer and resource, DiaperShops.com, today reveals the findings from its 2nd annual highly-anticipated cloth diapering pulse survey. The survey set out to understand the usage habits, brand preferences and traits that cloth diapering families share. It also set out to provide statistically relevant cloth diapering stats for the industry to reference.
Key findings of the survey include:
- Exclusive or Not, Cloth Diapering Moms are Avid Cloth Users: Half of respondents (50.4%) said they only use cloth diapers. However, many report that they have used disposable diapers at day care, at night, while traveling and when their baby has a rash. Only 31% of parents reported that they have never used a disposable diaper.
- bumGenius, FuzziBunz Most Preferred Cloth Diaper Brands. The most popular cloth diaper brand is bumGenius followed in second by FuzziBunz.
- Cloth Diaper Users Love to Hoard Diapers. Forty-eight percent (48%) of respondents say they own 25-50 cloth diapers even though most manufacturers recommend only needing to have about 20 diapers on hand. Sixteen percent (16.2%) have over 51 diapers in their stash.
- Pockets and Snaps Rule. Most cloth diapering users say they prefer diapers with snap closures over hook and loop (i.e. Velcro™-like closures). The largest "style" preference is for pockets, which are diapers that have a pocket-opening that enables the user to customize the diaper's absorbency by stuffing the pocket with a micro-terry or other fabric "insert."
- Cloth Diapering Saves Money. The number one reason families choose to cloth diaper is to "save money" (53%) followed by "being more eco-friendly" and "health of baby."
- Cloth Diapering Fans are Early Adopters. Sixty-eight percent (68.4%) of cloth diaper users indicate that they decided to cloth diaper either before they were pregnant or during their pregnancy.
Bobbi-Jean Palmer, the owner of DiaperShops.com, created this survey as a means to learn more about her customers and help to better serve them.
"For a 2nd year, we wanted to provide relevant stats and information about cloth diapering users to the industry in order to better serve our customers and create products and promotions that appeal to their tastes and preferences," says Palmer. Further, Palmer says it's her plan to continue making this an annual survey so she can track user preferences, habits and traits of the cloth diapering community for many years to come.
Data for the survey was collected by DiaperShops.com in June and August 2012 using an online survey company. The company utilized social media to promote the survey and facilitate responses. No compensation was given to survey participants. Three thousand submissions were received and only those that have cloth diapered or are currently cloth diapering were allowed to fill out the survey in its entirety.
