Dickey's Barbecue Pit Opens its 200th Location and Gives Away 200 Free Sandwiches in Abilene This Saturday

ABILENE, Texas, Dec. 15, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Dickey's Barbecue Pit opens its 200th location this Saturday, December 17th in Abilene. In honor of this milestone, this new location will be giving free sandwiches to the first 200 customers. At 10:45 a.m. the R.O.T.C of Cooper High School will present the flags.

"I am so excited to be opening and I feel extremely privileged to be the 200th store," said franchise owner, Dwain Carpenter. "I am so proud of my store—we have a great location, hardworking employees, clean store and we'll soon be serving delicious barbecue!"

Carpenter is originally from Clyde, Texas and currently lives in Abilene with his wife, LaLena and son Garrett. His son Garrett is the general manager of this location.

"I wanted to make sure that if I couldn't be at the store for some reason that I could at least have someone who I could trust whole heartedly to run the show—and that's Garrett," said Carpenter. "I could have never opened this store without his help."

Dickey's 200th store is located at 5001 US Highway 277 S on the corner of 277 South and South Clack Street.

In 1941 Travis Dickey started up Dickey's restaurant north of downtown Dallas. In 1967, Dickey passed away while doing what he loved--preparing great barbecue. Travis Dickey's sons, Roland Dickey Sr. and T.D. Dickey Jr. took over the restaurant and began their journey to expand their father's restaurant throughout the Dallas-Fort Worth area. In 1994, the company began franchising and within 11 years it had acquired 55 locations. This year Dickey's has experienced a 46% growth rate; from 137 stores to 200 stores.
