Diesel Technology Forum to Participate At Today's EPA's 2014 Vehicle Technology Showcase In Ann Arbor

ANN ARBOR, Mich., Oct. 9, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- A variety of advanced technology vehicles and components including clean diesel, electric vehicles, hybrid and alternative fuels will be highlighted today at the Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) 2014 Vehicle Technology Showcase.

The event is being held at EPA's National Vehicle and Fuel Emissions Laboratory in Ann Arbor, MI to highlight the advanced technology that auto manufacturers are developing to increase fuel economy and reduce vehicle greenhouse gas emissions. The EPA will also present the "2014 Light-Duty Automotive Technology, Carbon Dioxide Emissions and Fuel Economy Trends Report", the authoritative reference for carbon dioxide emissions, fuel economy and powertrain trends for new personal vehicles in the United States. The report also compares automakers' fuel economy performance in model year 2013.

To showcase the major advancements in clean diesel technology, Allen Schaeffer, the Executive Director of Diesel Technology Forum, is participating and will present a video presentation entitled "Real World Benefits That Exceed Expectation Today: Clean Diesel" at the Forum's display.

The presentation will outline a number of fuel efficiency and environmental benefits resulting from new clean diesel technology including:

• Achieving CAFÉ Standards & Renewable Fuel: Clean diesel is a key component in achieving the new EPA mpg of 54.5 by 2025.
  • High quality biodiesel blends result in further emissions reductions making diesel a clean and sustainable choice.

• Diesel's Growing Popularity in the U.S.: Diesel car registrations have increased 24 percent since 2010.  Diesel passenger vehicles now account for around three percent of the total U.S. vehicle market.  However, market analysts project diesels could reach a 10 percent share of the total vehicle market by 2018 to 2020.
  • The number of new diesels in the U.S. market could almost double to 60 choices by 2020.
  • More than 50% of fuel stations in the U.S. have diesel pumps and this is growing every week.
