Discount Dental Plans Make Orthodontics Surprisingly Affordable
First Dental Health says their discount dental plans can lower the cost of braces for both children and adults.
SAN DIEGO, Calif., July 31, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Dentists are increasingly recommending braces for both adults and children for health as well as cosmetic reasons. Unfortunately, the costs associated with orthodontic procedures, equipment and office visits can put treatment out of reach for many people, including even those covered by dental insurance. New Dental Choice, a nationwide discount dental program by First Dental Health, is making braces affordable for people with and without dental insurance.
New Dental Choice provides affordable dental care by contracting with dentists and specialists who agree to accept reduced fees for their services. Members who belong to a New Dental Choice discount dental plan make low monthly payments entitling them to a wide range of discount dental services, including orthodontics. In California and Arizona, orthodontists in the New Dental Choice network provide braces for a pre-negotiated discounted fee. In other states across the U.S., network orthodontists provide orthodontic services at a discount off of their retail fee.
"Bringing teeth into proper alignment can benefit long-term dental health by reducing the risk of tooth decay and gingivitis, and preventing more serious health problems," according to Dr. Michael S. Grossman, President and CEO of First Dental Health. "But people put off getting braces, for their children or for themselves, because of the high cost. New Dental Choice gives them an affordable way to obtain critical orthodontic care from qualified and credentialed dental specialists."
According to a survey conducted by the American Academy of Orthodontists, 50 to 75 percent of the population could benefit from orthodontic treatment. However, more dental insurance programs do NOT cover braces than do, and there are usually restrictions on what is covered. Most dental insurance requires a separate orthodontic deductible, significant lifetime benefit limits, and per-visit copayments that can add up to a substantial amount over years of orthodontist appointments. In addition, few dental insurance policies cover braces for anyone over 18.
"Families who could not afford braces for their children in the past may have felt guilty about having to say no to treatment," says Dr. Grossman. "We are gratified to be able to help them with our affordable options."
New Dental Choice, a nationwide discount dental plan offered by First Dental Health, provides dental discounts of 15 to 60 percent on all dental services. Anyone can become a member, and there are no deductibles, no high premiums, and no waiting periods. First Dental Health, a full-service dental network management company providing products, networks, and related services nationwide, manages the largest independent PPO network in California.
