Dispatch Goods Opens New East Bay Wash Facility, Expanding Reuse Infrastructure for California Businesses

New AI-enabled plant adds capacity, automated return tracking and real-time sustainability reporting as businesses move away from single-use foodware

SAN FRANCISCO, Oct. 27, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Dispatch Goods, the managed reuse service that replaces single-use foodware for businesses, today announced the opening of its new wash facility in the East Bay. The 18,000-square-foot facility is three times larger than the company's previous East Bay operation and can wash up to 240 million foodware items a year. That capacity supports expanded routes across the San Francisco Bay Area, the company's first and largest market.

Dispatch Goods delivers reusable foodware to corporate campuses, hospitals, universities and food service operators. It collects the foodware on scheduled routes, then washes, inspects and returns it ready for service, much like a linen service. Customers don't need to run a dishwashing operation themselves. Since its founding in 2019, the company has expanded to serve major metros on the West Coast and East Coast and is now moving into Texas and the Midwest, keeping millions of items a year out of the waste stream.

An AI-enabled wash facility

The new facility is built around the technology that runs Dispatch Goods' operations, and AI is used throughout the process:

• Computer vision on the floor. Cameras on the automation line capture every item that comes back, giving Dispatch Goods accurate return rates. They also record the labor and process data behind the cost of each wash.
• AI-powered decision-making. That data feeds Avot, Dispatch Goods' intelligent operations platform, which uses it to make decisions on labor planning, return rates, cleaning processes and procurement.
• Data customers can report on. Data from the facility flows into the Dispatch Goods customer portal. There, customers can track orders, return rates, and the waste, carbon and water they've avoided compared with single-use. Sustainability teams can use those figures directly in their goal tracking and reporting.

The larger facility has room for additional wash lines and new automation. More throughput lowers the cost of each wash, which strengthens the case that reuse can be the lower-cost option. It also lets Dispatch Goods add routes and bring on new customers across the region.

Why demand for reuse is growing in California

Several forces are pushing California businesses toward reuse:

• Rising cost of disposables. Higher material, freight and tariff costs have driven up the price of single-use packaging.
• Compostables aren't working. Organizations increasingly see that single-use foodware creates a large, avoidable waste stream. That includes compostables, the vast majority of which end up in landfill.
• The case for outsourcing. Running an onsite washroom takes capital, space, equipment, labor and hygiene compliance work. More operators are turning to a specialized service instead.
• New policy. SB 54, California's extended producer responsibility (EPR) law, along with local foodware ordinances, is making single-use packaging more expensive to buy and to throw away. Reusable systems don't carry a fee under EPR laws.
