DTE Energy Co. Analyst Notes
On May 27, 2014, DTE Energy Co. (DTE Energy) reported that it has completed the sale of the historic Marysville Power Plant to Commercial Development Company, a firm specializing in industrial brownfield work. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. Dave Meador, DTE Energy's Vice Chairman and Chief Administrative Officer, stated, "DTE Energy has worked diligently to ensure that the sale of this important property is in the City of Marysville's best interest for future development. We are excited about the site's potential reuse and are confident that Commercial Development Company will prepare the property to become a vibrant part of the community." Also known as 'Mighty Marysville', the plant ran from 1922 until 2001, employing as many 250 people at its peak, and was released for decommissioning in 2011. Located on a 20-acre site along the St. Clair River, the Company informed that the plant generated about 167 megawatts of electricity when operations ceased. (American Water) announced that it has selected 10 students throughout Pennsylvania to receive Stream of Learning Scholarships. Now in its fifth year, the program gives each winning student a $2,000 scholarship, and supports outstanding students within its service areas who are charting a course of study that is critical to the water and wastewater industry. The recipients of the award were selected from more than 120 applicants by a panel of judges, and were evaluated on criteria such as academic achievement, letters of recommendation, community service and future careers plans in the water and wastewater industry. OGE Energy Corp. Analyst Notes
On May 27, 2014, OGE Energy Corp. (OGE Energy) announced that the U.S. Supreme Court has denied a petition filed by its subsidiary Oklahoma Gas and Electric (OG&E) and Oklahoma Attorney General Scott Pruitt asking the nation's highest court to review a 10th Circuit Court of Appeals decision on Regional Haze. According to the Company, the question that the Supreme Court declined to review was whether the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) acted appropriately in rejecting Oklahoma's plan to address visibility at national parks and wildlife areas. OG&E spokesman Paul Renfrow remarked, "We are disappointed on behalf of our customers. We still believe that the Oklahoma State Implementation Plan would have enabled us to meet the Regional Haze requirements at a much lower cost. However, we accept the Court's ruling and now turn our attention to meeting the 55-month compliance deadline." In July 2013, a split, three-member panel of the 10th Circuit ruled that the EPA lawfully exercised its authority to reject Oklahoma's state plan and instead imposed a federally mandated plan on Oklahoma.
