DKMS Americas announces new branding initiative to increase donor registry numbers

NEW YORK, March 21, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Every year, more than 12,000 patients in the U.S. are diagnosed with blood cancers for which a bone marrow transplant may be their only hope for a cure. 70% of patients in need rely on a perfect stranger for a bone marrow donation.  DKMS Americas, part of the world's largest bone marrow donor center announced today that they are leading the charge to increase the number of registered donors by embarking on an aggressive, nationwide campaign under the name Delete Blood Cancer. This new branding initiative is the first step in the organization's most ambitious awareness and donor registration campaign to date.

With over 3.4 million potential bone marrow donors registered worldwide and 33,000 life-saving matches, Delete Blood Cancer is at the very forefront of the fight against blood cancer.  This new initiative will focus both on the organization's unprecedented numbers, and its dedication to cultivating personal connections and one-on-one relationships with its members.  Many donors and patients have the opportunity to meet and form meaningful friendships that only the bond of a life-saving donation could create.

With the use of print, radio, TV, online and social media, Delete Blood Cancer will flood the airwaves, the web and newspapers in an attempt to increase the number of bone marrow donors, ultimately leading to saving the lives of thousands afflicted with life-threatening blood diseases.  In addition to mass media, the organization will also utilize hyper-local outlets and will work to create partnerships with local corporations, sports teams, colleges and retailers.  Delete Blood Cancer will also concentrate on raising awareness about the organization and the need for donors by participating in local health and wellness fairs, runs, marathons and cycling events.

Delete Blood Cancer's campaign to register as many potential bone marrow donors as possible is currently underway in New England, the New York/Tri-state area, Texas, St. Louis and Tennessee.  The new, integrated campaign is expected to debut in March 2013 and will roll-out in the following regions:  Atlanta, Chicago, Washington, DC, Los Angeles, and the Bay Area.
