Patrick Wall wins Nellie Bly Cub Reporter Award for best young journalist
NEW YORK, June 10, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- DNAinfo.com New York, the city's leading neighborhood news source, congratulates reporters Patrick Wall and Jeff Mays, and photographers Joseph Tabacca and Tuan Nguyen, for winning New York Press Club Journalism awards today.
Wall won the Nellie Bly Cub Reporter award, which honors the best journalistic effort for an individual with less than three years' experience, for his series on South Bronx education. His coverage ranged from a Bronx principal who refused to provide math and English classes, to an in-depth look at the high school admissions process for immigrant students.
Mays won the Rev. Mychal Judge Heart of New York award honoring coverage complimentary to New York City for his story about a public housing resident that jumped into flood waters to save a drowning taxi driver during Hurricane Sandy.
"In his beat as South Bronx reporter, Patrick Wall won the trust of neighborhood sources who led him to important school stories. His exceptional coverage helped drive important changes in the school curriculum," said Michael. P. Ventura, managing editor, DNAinfo.com New York.
