KANSAS CITY, Kan., Feb. 24, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- "Time is what Ian Grillot (Grill-it) needs now," Ashley Bennett, MD, and trauma surgeon at The University of Kansas Health System said. "He's doing great and he's the kind of patient you like to care for because he's a nice young man."
Grillot is recovering from a single bullet shot that pierced his hand and chest. Dr. Bennett says that bullet is still in Grillot's chest because it would pose more threat to surgically remove it. Still, doctors say Grillot's prognosis is good. Plastic surgeons are considering options to help repair the damage to Grillot's hand.
In the meantime, Grillot, his doctors, medical staff and family ask that media give him time to heal. The University of Kansas Health System will update his recovery on Monday. The family and Grillot appreciate the interest by the community so much and are feeling overwhelmed. They ask for a period of quiet. The family will not respond to any requests for interviews at this time, regardless of the news outlet.
In this video Dr. Bennett talks more about Grillot's injuries and his road to recovery as well as how remarkable Grillot is as a patient.
His family has set up a GoFundMe page to help with his medical expenses.
