Domestic Violence Warriors Desperate for Private Funding
Fifty cents per day will make impact says national non-profit
SAN DIEGO, Dec. 1, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- As federal and state funding for non-profits continues to shrink, the need for private donors has become critical in the battle against domestic violence.
A donation of as little as $0.50 per day will help national non-profit Break the Silence Against Domestic Violence (BTS) continue to serve domestic violence victims and survivors. Community groups, companies large and small, and individuals are being challenged to personally invest in the battle against domestic violence.
An alarming statistic puts the magnitude of domestic violence into perspective:
- 10,000 precious civilian and military lives have been lost as a result of senseless terrorism that began on 9/11 and continued through the Iraq and Afghanistan wars that followed.
- 15,500 more precious lives were lost to domestic violence during that same 7-year period.
State and federal funding to serve domestic violence victims continues to shrink.
Become an annual financial donor. "Fifty cents per day will help survivors get on their feet and build a new life," says Kristen Paruginog, Founder and Executive Director of BTS, a non-profit that serves victims of domestic abuse on a national scope.
BTS was established five years ago this week, and the group has been driving change since then. The situation is still critical, explains Ms. Paruginog. "We have to step up the resources to educate and change lifetime behaviors, but in the meantime, victims and survivors need our help to escape dangerous situations and move into healthy lifestyles."
During its five-year existence, BTS has tangibly influenced:
- 1,500 victims and survivors through its advocate-run hotline, retreats, scholarships and financial empowerment tools.
- 56,000 social media followers with consistent education, advocacy and encouragement
"Thanks to the help of so many, we have changed lives," says Ms. Paruginog, "but it's just the tip of the iceberg. We need private funding to maintain and increase our reach."
