Dominion Foundation Contributes $37,500 to Eight Regional Habitat for Humanity ReStores

AKRON, Ohio, Feb. 5 /PRNewswire/ -- Dominion East Ohio today announced it is donating $37,500 to eight Ohio Habitat for Humanity ReStores, through the Dominion Foundation.  ReStores are nonprofit outlets that accept donated goods for resale. While every ReStore is a little different, most focus on new and gently used home improvement goods – furniture, home accessories, building materials and appliances. These donated goods are sold to the general public at a fraction of the retail price.

Habitat for Humanity ReStores in the following areas received Dominion Foundation grants:

Items sold in the ReStore locations are donated by individuals, contractors and retailers. ReStore is a perfect place for contractors, landlords and do-it-yourselfers to shop. Some donated materials are used directly in the construction of Habitat homes, most are sold in ReStore locations. Proceeds from the ReStores benefit the mission of the various Habitat for Humanity locations.

Habitat for Humanity International, a nonprofit, ecumenical Christian housing ministry, works in partnership with people in need to improve the condition in which they live. Habitat challenges people of compassion to provide the initial capital – through gifts and no-interest loans – to build simple, decent homes with the inadequately sheltered.

Dominion Resources, its charitable foundation and employees invested more than $20 million and 120,000 volunteer hours in 2009 in support programs that help improve the quality of life for people in the 12 states where Dominion operates. Grant focus areas included preservation of natural and historic resources, work force development and education, diversity initiatives, neighborhood and community development, and meeting basic needs for food, health and shelter.
