doTERRA Donates to Charity Golf Tournament to Spread Awareness of Autoimmune Disease

PLEASANT GROVE, Utah, March 3, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- doTERRA International supported the first annual Putting for PANDAS Charity Golf Tournament, held by the Midwest PANS/PANDAS Parent Association in St. Louis, Missouri, to help promote awareness about the autoimmune disease PANDAS. 

Pediatric Autoimmune Neuropsychiatric Disorders Associated with Streptococcal Infections, or PANDAS, is an autoimmune disease that affects roughly 1 in 200 children. PANDAS occurs in children following strep, when the infection triggers an autoimmune response in the brain that causes severe neurological and behavioral symptoms. Pediatric Acute-onset Neuropsychiatric Syndrome, or PANS, is a similar disease that causes similar symptoms, but is not associated with strep specifically.

Children diagnosed with PANDAS struggle with an array of symptoms like Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), anxiety, depression, sleep disorders, mood swings, behavioral changes, and more. As imagined, changes like this can be overwhelming for a child who once experienced normal functions and behaviors.

The mission of the Midwest PANS/PANDAS Parents Association (MPPPA) is to advocate for children with PANDAS and PANS, in hopes of obtaining the best medical care for children diagnosed with these autoimmune diseases. The proceeds of the Putting for Pandas Charity Golf Tournament will help the MPPPA continue their mission of educating and empowering parents and caregivers of children with PANDAS and PANS, and spreading awareness of this disease.
