doTERRA Wellness Advocate Will Walk With Cancer Survivors in the 2016 Relay for Life

PLEASANT GROVE, Utah, April 7, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Although doTERRA Wellness Advocates put a lot of time and energy into sharing essential oils, many of them also seek to support important causes in their communities. One of these generous Wellness Advocates is Kim Snegirev, who is preparing to participate once again in the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life event in 2016, outside of her work with doTERRA. The event will honor lives claimed by cancer, those currently fighting cancer, and help raise funds for future research.

The Relay for Life event has a special place in Kim's heart because her sister is a 19-year cancer survivor. Her sister's experience motivated Kim to get involved with the relay, and each time she participates she has the chance to honor her sister, as well as others who have won their battle with cancer. In 2016, Kim will join with co-workers, friends, and family to participate in the fundraising walk in July.

The concept for Relay for Life started in 1985, when Dr. Gordy Klatt walked around a track in Tacoma, WA for 24 hours—raising $27,000 for the American Cancer Society. Since then, the Relay for Life movement has raised nearly $5 billion to fight cancer by bringing communities together. The event is an overnight community fundraising walk where teams of people camp out around a running track, while members of each team take turns walking around the course.

One special portion of the event is the Survivor Lap where all cancer survivors in attendance take a lap around the track as the crowd cheers them on. Kim says, "My favorite part of the event is seeing the number of survivors walking the Survivor Lap, and knowing that our numbers are growing. It's a wonderful feeling to know that I am a part of something that is adding more birthdays to the life of a survivor."

Kim treasures her past experience with the Relay for Life as she prepares to honor her sister again this year. Aside from celebrating those who have survived a cancer diagnosis, the event is also designed to honor and remember individuals who have lost their lives to this disease. Another important focus of the event is the idea of fighting back against cancer by raising awareness and money for research.
