DoubleTree and Embassy Suites Refuse To Give Employees Decent Health Care

Negotiations with Teamsters Local 727 Slowing Because of Management's Unreasonable Actions

ROSEMONT, Ill., May 10, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Contract negotiations between Teamsters Local 727 and DoubleTree Chicago O'Hare and Embassy Suites Rosemont have reached a standstill because hotel management is refusing to give its workers a new agreement with decent health care.

The previous five-year contract for 16 shuttle bus drivers and doormen at the Rosemont hotels expired on Dec. 31, 2011. Negotiations have been ongoing for nearly six months.

"We are calling upon the management of the DoubleTree and Embassy Suites to treat their workers fairly," said John Coli Jr., President of Teamsters Local 727. "These hardworking members deserve the same health care as their counterparts working just down the street at the Hyatt Regency, the Crowne Plaza and the Hilton."

Teamsters Local 727 representatives are proposing the union's health care, which includes a wellness program that is aimed at early detection of health problems.

"With the rising costs of health care, the union is offering a competitively priced plan with cost certainty for several years into the future," Coli said. "The union's proposal would help our members and their employer in so many ways, but management simply refuses to see the benefits and continues to act unreasonably."

The sides are scheduled to meet again on Friday, May 11.
