Dr. Bob Run to Raise Money for KU Scholarship Fund
Briggs Auto among the sponsors of the event to remember a respected member of the college's staff.
LAWRENCE, Kan., Aug. 29, 2013 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- In June of 2009, Dr. Bob Frederick passed away after injuries sustained during a bicycle accident. As a way of remembering the former University of Kansas Athletic Director, his family decided to set up a scholarship fund in his name. The scholarship is awarded to two students every year, one graduate and one undergraduate. Only Health, Sport and Exercise Science majors are eligible, as Dr. Frederick was a lecturer in that department. An avid runner himself, Dr. Bob also coached the Lawrence High School Girls Cross Country Team.

In an effort to raise more funds for the scholarship and to honor Dr. Bob's love for running, the family started the Dr. Bob Run, which is now in its fourth year. Sponsored by Briggs Auto, the race will take place on September 14, at Rim Rock Farm in Lawrence, KU's top of the line cross-country facility. Participants will have the choice to run either a 5K or 8K. The fee is $25 before September 13th, and $30 on the morning of the race. Children K-6th grade will have the opportunity to do a free one mile run which will be taking place at 8 am. The 5K race will be at 8:30 am and the 8K will follow at 9:45 am. The first 500 runners to sign up will be given a free t-shirt, so potential participants are recommended to register early.
Award ceremonies will be held separately for each race and will take place after the majority of participants have returned to the starting line. The top overall male and female will receive awards, and the top three finishers, both male and female, in the nine different categories will receive a prize. Runners of all skill levels are encouraged to participate in the Dr. Bob Run. As participation continues to climb, organizers are expecting a large turnout and recommend all who are interested in joining to get their registration in immediately. Participants are expected to arrive at Rim Rock Farm at 7 am on the morning of the race for packet pick-up and registration.
