Dr. Brian Boxer Wachler to be Honored With Olympic Gold Medal Bobsled Champion Steve Holcomb Alongside Apple CEO Steve Jobs, James Cameron, Dan Rather, Quincy Jones and Others at 2010 Vision Awards in Beverly Hills

Boxer Wachler, MD is to receive one of the highest honors a physician can achieve.  On Thursday evening, September 23, Dr. Boxer Wachler will receive the Jules Stein Living Tribute Award at the 2010 Vision Awards.

Dr. Boxer Wachler was chosen as an honoree for restoring the eyesight of 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics Gold Medal bobsled driver Steve Holcomb.

Three years ago Holcomb's Keratoconus nearly led him to retire from the sport of bobsledding.  In 2007, Dr. Boxer Wachler performed an innovative new non-invasive procedure he had developed for the treatment of Keratoconus, then called C3-R, that saved Holcomb's vision.  A few months later he also performed an insertable contact lens procedure to further improve Holcomb's vision to 20/20.

Holcomb was not only able to return to his sport of bobsled, but at the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics he won the first U.S. Gold Medal in bobsled in 62 years.  In honor of one of the greatest feats in sports history, Dr. Boxer Wachler renamed the procedure Holcomb C3-R to honor the athlete and his achievement.  This marked the first time a medical procedure was named after an Olympic athlete.

CEO Steve Jobs with the Lifetime Achievement Award in Technology; James Cameron with Film of Vision Award for Avatar; journalist Dan Rather with Lifetime Achievement Award in Media; Quincy Jones with the Lester Sill Humanitarian Award; Patrick Soon-Shiong, MD with Humanitarian of Vision Award; Stanley Jaffe with Lifetime Achievement Award in Film among other honorees.
