Dr. Kiya Movassaghi Directs ASAPS-Endorsed Plastic Surgery Fellowship

EUGENE, Ore., May 31, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Dr. Kiya Movassaghi, board certified plastic surgeon and medical director of Movassaghi Plastic Surgery & Ziba Medical Spa in Eugene, is pleased to announce that he will once again welcome a plastic surgery fellow under his tutelage as part of the prestigious American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS) Fellowship program.

He explains that the majority of plastic surgery residency training takes place in a hospital setting. While hospitals are an ideal setting for intensive training and provide the opportunity to work with a diverse patient population, they do not offer training in elements unique to private practice, such as medical spa treatments and private practice management.

Dr. Movassaghi stresses that the fellowship position at Movassaghi Plastic Surgery helps fill this need. ASAPS-Endorsed Fellows are determined through highly selective process

ASAPS is considered the leading professional organization dedicated to advancing aesthetic medicine and plastic surgery, and membership is reserved for the most highly qualified board certified plastic surgeons who specialize in aesthetic medicine. ASAPS endorses only around 20 fellowships each year across the U.S., with hundreds of eligible plastic surgeons vying for these highly sought-after positions.

Fellowship eligibility standards are equally stringent. To be considered for the position at Movassaghi Plastic Surgery, an individual must be licensed to practice medicine in Oregon, have completed an accredited plastic surgery residency program, and be board-eligible or board certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery. Hopefuls submit applications as much as 18 months in advance.

Current fellow Dr. Matt Lewis to graduate in June, and the new fellow will begin July 1

2017-18 will be the second year that Dr. Movassaghi has directed an ASAPS-endorsed fellowship. The first ASAPS Fellow to serve at Movassaghi Plastic Surgery, Dr. Matt Lewis, will complete his fellowship on June 30. In early July, Dr. Movassaghi's next fellow will begin their year with the practice.

During their fellowship, the incoming fellow will assist Dr. Movassaghi with cosmetic and reconstructive surgical and non-surgical procedures, perform patient consultations, and supervise pre- and post-operative patient care. They will also have opportunities to conduct clinical research and present at the annual ASAPS meeting.
