"Michael's vision and leadership are directly responsible for the growth and success of The Chicago School as a preeminent graduate institution" said Ricardo Grunsten, chairman of the Board of Trustees of TCSPP. "His legacy here is exceptional in every way. We now look forward to the expertise, insight and innovation he brings to the development of TCS Education System."
Under Dr. Horowitz's direction, TCSPP grew from a single-program, single-campus institution with 215 students to a prominent multi-campus leader in graduate psychology and behavioral sciences education, with 20 programs and more than 3,000 students. TCSPP also became a recognized source of innovative approaches to behavioral science training, scholarship, applications, and service to the community. Dr. Horowitz's leadership brought many new initiatives, including the Center for Latino Mental Health, Naomi Ruth Cohen Institute for Mental Health Education, The Chicago School Forensic Center, Center for International Studies, and Garfield Park Preparatory Academy, a K-8 public contract school that began in fall 2009 as part of the Chicago Public School Renaissance 2010 initiative.
"It is an honor and privilege to serve as president emeritus of an institution that has truly been home to me and has offered one of the most exciting and gratifying experiences of my life," said Dr. Horowitz. "I continue to be inspired by The Chicago School's students, faculty, staff and leadership, and am confident that the institution will continue to develop outstanding and innovative professionals who are committed to the practice and to serving the greater community."
Since becoming president and CEO of TCS Education System, Dr. Horowitz has led TCS ES in affiliating with several specialized institutions that are backed by a model of education that prepares socially responsible, culturally competent professionals in applied fields such as psychology, health and human services, education, and law. The TCS ES network includes The Chicago School of Professional Psychology, Pacific Oaks College, Santa Barbara Graduate Institute, and the Santa Barbara and Ventura Colleges of Law.
