Dr. Sherine Gabriel, Dr. William A. Haseltine and Paul P. Tanico Join New York Academy of Medicine Board of Trustees
NEW YORK, May 30, 2017 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The New York Academy of Medicine welcomes to its Board of Trustees three leaders in medicine, science and business: Sherine E. Gabriel, MD, MSc, Professor & Dean of Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School and CEO of Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical Group; William A. Haseltine, PhD, Chairman and President of ACCESS Health International, Inc. and founder of Human Genome Sciences, Inc.; and Paul P. Tanico, JD, Founder, Managing Principal and Chief Executive Officer of CastleRock Management.

Dr. Gabriel has had a career-long commitment to education and career development for which she has received several honors including the Mayo Clinic Distinguished Educator Award, the Association for Clinical Research Training Distinguished Educator Award, and the McCann Scholar Award for Excellence in Mentoring in Medicine and Science. She is Dean Emerita of Mayo Medical School, where she developed the large and successful Clinical Research Training and Career Development Programs. Dr. Gabriel has served on dozens of governmental committees and advisory boards including for NIH and FDA, on many scientific editorial boards, and in many leadership roles in professional societies including as President of the American College of Rheumatology.
Dr. Haseltine has an active career in science, business and philanthropy. He is well known for his pioneering work on cancer, HIV/AIDS and genomics. He was a professor at Harvard Medical School and Harvard School of Public Health from 1976-1993 where he was Founder and the Chair of the Division of Biochemical Pharmacology and the Division of Human Retrovirology. He is the Founder of Human Genome Sciences, Inc. and served as the Chairman and CEO for twelve years. Dr. Haseltine is currently Chairman and President of ACCESS Health International, Inc. and Chairman of the Haseltine Foundation for Science and the Arts. Among his many voluntary activities, he is a member of the Advisory Board of the IE University, Madrid, a member of the advisory council of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research of India, a Lifetime Governor of the New York Academy of Sciences, and a Trustee of the Lee Berger Trust for Paleoanthropology, South Africa.
Mr. Tanico founded CastleRock Management, an investment firm that managed long/short long-biased U.S. equity funds. In 2013, CastleRock liquidated its main fund and has since used its research capabilities to make both active and passive investments in several industries including financial, information technology, healthcare, energy and a multi-country consumer restaurant franchise in Africa. Mr. Tanico is a member of or has served on the following boards: NYU Stern Board of Overseers, NYU Stern Executive Board, Dean's Planning Council of Fordham University School of Law, Board of Trustees of Public Broadcast Station WNET, Trinity School in New York City, and Xaverian High School in Brooklyn, New York. He is a member of the New York State Bar.
